National Fruits and Vegetable Month is celebrated in June in the United States. Fruits and vegetables are such an important part of our diet because they are full of special and important nutrients that give us energy, keep us healthy, and even prevent chronic illnesses later on. Celebrating fresh fruits and vegetables in June is a great way to encourage everyone to fill their diets with more of these delicious and colourful foods! Something that I was always told growing up is that I should "eat the rainbow" (how fun is that?)! Which basically just means you should try and have as many colours in our food as possible and the best way to do that is having lots of different fruits and vegetables. They come in all sorts of different colours because different fruits and vegetables have a variety of vitamins and minerals that are all important to our health.

It's not always easy to convince kids that its great to choose the fruits and vegetables over the candy bar - I know that I never made it particularly easy for my parents.
