Cheese Day - June 4th

Cheese day is celebrated on June 4th each year, and while the holiday may not be ancient the food that it celebrates certainly is! Cheese is suspected to trace all the way back to 8000 years before the common era (B.C.E.). It was first discovered around the same time that civilizations began using agricultural practices, when goats and sheep were domesticated and raised for their milk. When milk sat out in hot temperatures for an extended period of time a chemical process occured that resulted in lumps of cheese.
Cheese was incredibly nutritional and once discovered, people began to experiment with different ways of making cheese. For example, in Greece they made very hard feta cheese, in India they combined other ingredients in the cheese making process to make paneer, and in Switzerland they perfected the art of cow cheeses such as Swiss cheese. Cheese is still a huge food around the world and today billions of kilograms of cheese are produced and shared around the globe each year! So it only makes sense that we dedicate a whole day to celebrating this tasty food!
Below are some fun dairy crafts and cheesey recipes to help you celebrate this delicious holiday!
