DLTK's Crafts for Kids
Tissue Paper Stained Glass Heart Craft
Use this as a craft you can hang in your window. Have fun making different shapes and sizes to really decorate for Valentine's Day.
You can also make a similar decoration with melted waxed crayons instead!
Optional: use clear contact paper instead of waxed paper. This is a bit more expensive, but eliminates the need for glue so is not as messy. Having said that, some children struggle with self adhesive paper because they touch it too much. Instruct them on how to just lay the tissue paper onto the contact paper without touching it.
Materials:
- waxed paper,
- glue,
- tissue paper (pinks, reds, whites)
- construction paper (black),
- scissors,
- glue stick.
Instructions:
- Cut out a heart shape from black construction paper. You can draw your own or use the template provided. Make the border as wide as you would like it to be (the wider the border, the easier the project is for young crafters.
- Glue the heart shape to a piece of waxed paper or stick it to clear contact paper
- Tear or cut tissue paper into 1 inch squares (ish). Sometimes I like to crumple up then smooth out the tissue paper before I cut it up to add a bit of texture.
- Glue the tissue paper to the waxed paper in a random fashion.
- Let dry.
- Trim around the shape as needed and hang in the window to enjoy!
Craft Templates:
- Close template window when done printing to return to this screen.
- Set page margins to zero if you have trouble fitting the template on one page (FILE, PAGE SETUP or FILE, PRINTER SETUP in most browsers).
