Pet Week - First Full Week of May
During the first full week of May (Sunday to Saturday) we celebrate something incredibly special... Our pets! Pet week is a national holiday in the United States of America, but that doesn't mean we can't celebrate pet week all over the world. Besides, it's always fun to show our pets we love them! National Pet Week started in 1981 by the American Veterinary Medical Association. They had several goals for pet week such as celebrating the special bond between human and pet, encouraging pet owners to care for their companions responsibly, and help teach pet owners important lessons in pet needs such as exercise, diet, socialization, and more.
Having and taking care of pets is a long tradition. In fact, there is historical evidence that people have had canine and feline companions for thousands of years! Pets are absolutely wonderful--those furry, feathered, or scaley family members are so loyal and loving. Since our pets give us so much loyalty and affection, it's important for us to return the favour and give them lots of love and care back. There are a bunch of ways we can look after our pets, like taking them to the vet, playing with them, training them, and of course... giving them tons of love!
To celebrate pet week lets show our pets how much we love them. We also have some pet-themed crafts and activities below, so you can also do some crafting to celebrate your pet companions!
