Paper Strip Acorn Craft

I've never seen a real acorn! So weird to think that they're as common to some people as pinecones are to me.
This paper strip acorn craft is good for an autumn theme or a Chicken Little fairy tale theme (an acorn fell on chicken little's head). But it's also a great craft for kids to practice patterning (laying out colors in a repeating pattern) and scissor skills. Depending on the age of the child, you may need to help them cut out the acorn but any child who can use safety scissors can participate in cutting out the paper strips from colored construction paper.
If you feel that cutting strips of paper is too difficult for your child, try one of the Autumn Scissor Skills projects instead!
Materials:
- printer,
- paper,
- scissors,
- glue
- Acorn outline template (provided at the bottom of this page or you can draw your own)
- Coloured construction paper
Instructions:
- Print out the template of choice.
- Cut out the acorn template.
- Cut out strips of coloured construction paper of your choice (I chose fall colours, and cut them into ½ inch strips).
Lay your strips out in a pattern you like.- Glue around the edge of the acorn outline and glue the strips to cover the inside of the acorn.
Cut off the paper strips that go over the edges of the acorn. - Let the glue dry completely and then your acorn in finished!
Templates:
- Close the template window after printing to return to this screen.
- Set page margins to zero if you have trouble fitting the template on one page (FILE, PAGE SETUP or FILE, PRINTER SETUP in most browsers).
