Halloween Costume

Bat

Submitted By:
Age: any
Time Required: 1 hour
Difficulty: easy
Materials Required: black or brown pants and shirt

black poster board

black 1/2" elastic OR self adhesive velcro OR hot glue gun

Face makeup (store bought or home made
Directions: dress in all black or all brown

WINGS:
Fold poster board in half and cut out bat wing shape

Have one adult hold the wings up to the child's back. Poke holes above and below the shoulders on either side (4 holes). Thread black elastic through and around the shoulders on each side tying in the back (2 pieces of elastic). That way the child can slip in and out of the wings.

OR attach self adhesive velcro to the back of the shirt and the back of the wings OR hot glue the wings to the back of the shirt.

SAFETY TIP:
Decorate the edges of the wings, front and back, with glow in the dark paint (available at the craft store)

OPTIONAL:
Paint face black

If you are having trouble finding the pieces for the costume in the store, or if you like sewing parts of your own costumes, check out these ideas:

1) Make your own tunic shirt from black material

2) Make homemade makeup

3) Make a skirt from black material.

4) In colder climates especially, make a cloak from black material and add silver or glow in the dark fringe for safety. You can wear this overtop of a warm jacket. The pattern does not require sewing.
