Simple Cross Template
Fingerprint Cross
Materials: Paper or canvas, paint in various colors.
- Activity: Draw or paint a simple cross outline. Children dip their fingers in paint and press them along the cross outline, filling in the shape with colorful fingerprints. For kids who don't like to get dirty, you can use a cotton swab instead of your finger to make the dots.
Popsicle Stick Cross
Materials: Popsicle sticks or tongue depressors, glue, paint or markers, decorations (sequins, glitter).
- Activity: Glue popsicle sticks together to form a cross. Once dry, children can paint or color their crosses and add decorations like sequins or glitter.
Clay Cross Ornament
Materials: Air-dry clay, rolling pin, knife or clay tools, paint.
- Activity: Roll out clay to an even thickness. Cut out a cross shape and add texture or patterns using tools or stamps. Allow to dry and then paint as desired.
Dot Art Cross Craft
Materials: Paper or cardstock, Paint in various colors, Cotton swabs, circular sponge brushes, or the handle end of paint brushes for making dots
Activity: Dip your chosen dot-making tool (cotton swab, circular sponge brush, or the handle end of a paintbrush) into the paint and begin dotting a cross on your paper. Experiment with different sizes and colors to fill in the cross with a vibrant mosaic of dots. Allow kids to express their creativity by layering colors or creating patterns.
Simple Paper Quilling Cross
Materials: Quilling paper or construction paper cut into strips, quilling tools or a bamboo skewer, glue, card stock
- Activity: wind strips of paper around a bamboo skewer (or use quilling tools) to form a round coil of paper. Apply a bit of glue so the paper stays in a coil. Repeat to make coils of different colors and a couple different sizes.
Once you have a bunch of these coils, organize them into the shape of a cross and glue them onto a piece of cardstock. You can glue straight strips of paper around your cross's borders to further define the shape. You'll want to use a strong glue (I use tacky glue) or a glue stick for this step. Let dry and then display! This is a great first project for the art of paper quilling.
