Stained Glass Turkey Craft
Celebrate Thanksgiving with this beautiful stained glass turkey craft!
When hung in a sunny window, the colorful tissue paper feathers glow like real stained glass. It’s a fun and easy suncatcher for kids that uses simple materials.
Materials:
- Black or brown construction paper. I prefer black as it looks more like stained glass to me, but some people may prefer brown so it feels more autumnal.
- Scissors
- Wax paper
- Autumn-colored tissue paper (reds, oranges, yellows)
- Googly eyes
- Small piece of orange construction paper (for the beak)
- Glue stick or white glue
- Pencil
- Stained glass turkey template
Instructions:
- Fold a piece of black or brown construction paper in half. Place the half-turkey template along the fold and trace the shape.
- Carefully cut along the traced lines. When you unfold the paper, you’ll have a full turkey outline with feather sections. This step may require adult assistance
- Cut or tear small pieces of tissue paper in autumn colors. Glue them onto a piece of wax paper, overlapping the colors for a pretty effect. This is a perfect project for early scissor skills practice, but for older kids, it can be fun to tear the tissue paper for a more artistic look.
- Let dry completely.
- Glue the construction paper turkey outline on top of the tissue-covered wax paper. Trim any excess wax paper around the edges.
- Glue on googly eyes and an orange beak to the turkey’s head.
- Hang your stained glass turkey in a sunny window and watch the colors shine!
