Paper Bag Day - July 12th

Paper Bag Day may sound like a very odd holiday, but it is celebrated each year on July 12th, which just so happens to be the day the first paper bag manufacturing machine was patented. While it may seem like an obscure holiday it is fantastic for crafting because paper bags are an essential crafting supply! After all, what makes a better puppet craft than a good ol’ fashion paper bag?
Usually I don't think twice about paper bags, they just feel like a staple in our world, we see them used as lunch bags, at take out restaurants, in grocery stores, and even as party gift bags! These useful objects are everywhere so we don't really think of a time that paper bags didn't exist, but actually paper bags weren't invented until 1852 when Francis Wolle was the first to patent the idea. A couple decades later, Margaret Knight expanded on the invention to create the flat bottom paper bag, which are the ones with the special folded bottom that we use for our paper bag puppet crafts! She also designed the first machine to improve the efficiency of paper bag production.
Below are some fun paper bag crafts to help you celebrate this fun and very craft-appropriate holiday!
