Carolyn Wells's Birthday - June 18th, 1862

Carolyn Wells was a famous author and poet who was born on June 18th, 1862 in New Jersey. She contracted scarlet fever when she was only 6 years old, and sadly lost her hearing. She was a dedicated student her whole childhood and graduate as validectorian from her high school. Afterwards, she independently studied science and humanities as well as worked as a librarian for the Rathway Library Association.
Wells was an incredibly successful writer, publishing around 170 books in her lifetime as well as writing for many pieces for newspaper and magazine publications. She was famous for the children's literature she wrote, from book series for girls (one of which had 18 books in the series!) to limericks and more! She published several successful poetry collections featuring humorous and nonsense poems. Carolyn Wells was also a successful mystery writer, where over 75 of her works fell under the mystery/detective genre. She passed away on March 26th, 1942 in New York.
